Varsity Lady Knights in the NYCAL Playoff Championship

On Friday, February 19,  the Varsity Lady Knights fell a little short in their quest for the NYCAL playoff championship, losing 59-52 to Columbia Prep. The Lady Knights found themselves in an early hole, trailing 12-6 after the first quarter, but they bounced back, cutting the deficit to 3 points at the half. Columbia’s offense came out firing on all cylinders in the third quarter, as they made three unbelievable three-pointers in the face of tremendous pressure. Columbia led by as many as 11, and the Lady Knights went into the fourth quarter trailing 44-36.

As they had done all year, the Lady Knights mounted a fierce comeback. Within the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, they had not only erased the deficit, but had taken the lead. Columbia managed to weather the storm, and final five minutes of the game were a tense, tight affair with the lead changing several times. With 30 seconds to go trailing by two, the Lady Knights couldn’t tie the game and were forced to put Columbia on the line. Columbia calmly sunk their free throws down the stretch, and the Lady Knights season came to an end.

Despite the loss, the 2015-16 Varsity Lady Knights have much to be proud of. They reached the finals for the seventh time in the past eight seasons. They posted an overall record of 18-7, the team’s most victories since 2012, and finished tied for the NYCAL regular season championship, the team’s first first-place finish since 2011.

Congratulations on an incredible season!!
